Waste Industry
A news site for the people who run UK waste and recycling: council waste teams, carriers, processors and the regulators around them. We built the site, the newsroom behind it and the advertising on top, and we host and run all of it.

A trade paper for UK waste, with real news on every page from day one.
The waste trade has a lot to keep up with: digital waste tracking, Simpler Recycling, packaging EPR and a steady stream of new guidance and consultations. Waste Industry was set up as a news title for that audience, published by the company behind WasteLinks. It had to launch with real news on every page, give a small team a proper newsroom to work in, and pay its way through advertising that readers can trust.
- Masthead, the green brand colour and a social media kit
- The public news site: home page, 46 sections, articles, search, RSS feed and newsletter sign up
- Automatic import of official news from GOV.UK and legislation.gov.uk, each story filed in the right section
- A newsroom dashboard with roles, drafts, scheduled publishing, an editorial calendar and a corrections log
- Advertising: campaigns by section and device, and a live report link for every client
- Sponsored articles, from submission to card payment, preview and approval
- Hosting on our own Hetzner server in the EU, with nightly backups
A whole newsroom and an advertising desk, in one dashboard.
New announcements, guidance, consultations and legislation from Defra, the Environment Agency, HMRC and DESNZ are brought in, filtered to waste and filed in the right section, with a link to the original.
Each story carries an open licence photo picked for it, with the photographer and the licence shown on the picture.
Contributors write drafts, editors publish, and corrections and takedowns are kept on a record that cannot be deleted.
Every campaign has its own live report: views, how many were actually seen on screen, clicks and click rate, by day, placement and artwork.
A company sends its story, the price is agreed, they pay by card through a secure link and approve a preview before it goes live, always labelled.
Readers are counted without cookies or profiles: views, reading time, scroll depth, sources and devices. Advertisers get totals, never personal data.
The paper, on a desktop and on the phone.

A modern newsroom, hosted and run by us.
Next.js and React for the site, Payload CMS for the newsroom dashboard, SQLite for the data and Stripe for sponsored article payments, all served by Caddy from our own Hetzner server with nightly backups.
